Epic Lavender Fields in Provence – Where to Go & When to Visit

The lavender fields in Provence are world-famous. But they’re more than just an Instagram backdrop. They’re a full-sensory experience. You’ll smell it before you see it. A sweet, herbal breeze. Purple waves glowing in the sun. Bees hum in the warm air. You feel like you’re in a painting.

This guide shows you where to find the best lavender fields in Provence, when to visit, and how to capture the perfect photo.

Between lavender fields, medieval villages, and dramatic gorges lie countless places that look like straight out of a fairytale.

Best Time to Visit Lavender Fields in Provence

The lavender season in Provence usually runs from late June to mid-July, depending on the region.

  • Lowlands (e.g., Valensole): peak bloom in early to mid-July
  • Higher areas (e.g., Sault): bloom lasts into late July

Top 5 Lavender Fields and Photo Spots in Provence

These are the most epic lavender fields in Provence that are ideal for photos, quiet moments, and stunning views.

1. Lavender Field on D6 near Valensole

Coordinates: 43.835147, 5.983393

Perhaps the most famous field in the region. Right by the road, easily accessible. By car via D6 or D953. Parking along the fields available. Best time: sunrise.

2. Lavender + Sunflower Combination

Coordinates: 43.831728, 5.983906 (D8 between Valensole and Puimoisson)

Rare: purple meets yellow. Only a few weeks a year – timing is everything here.

3. Lavender in Front of Sénanque Abbey

Address: Abbaye Notre-Dame de Sénanque, 84220 Gordes

One of the most photographed places in Provence. Come early to avoid tourist buses. Entry possible, but the best photo is from the hill above.

4. Plateau d’Albion bei Ferrassières

Coordinates: 44.089394, 5.465136

Less known, but great for drone shots. The fields stretch over wide hills. Plenty of space, fewer people.

5.Lavender Terraces near Sault

Coordinates: 44.174346, 5.406490

The circular trail “Chemin des Lavandes” offers many perspectives – ideal for reels or panoramic shots.

You can move between the lavender rows, as long as you don’t damage the plants. The fields offer enough space to walk gently through, camera in hand and the scent in your nose. With sunrise, the field comes to life: a gentle hum fills the air as bees begin their work. They’ll leave you alone if you observe them peacefully.
